** WARNING!!! WALL-O- TEXT! **I'm debating between several takes on an automated farm. My intent is to create automated or semi-automated farms that produce raw materials, then sorts and collects those materials for use. The farm would be at the site of an Underwater Temple giving it the benefit of prismarine shards. One useful feature is that the farm will have a lava bucket silo that stores both lava buckets and empty buckets for refilling. As cobblestone, sand, clay and netherrack are collected and sorted, two double-chests are auto-cooked into stone, glass, brick and nether brick. Another machine would collect items used for potions so potions could be made on demand. There are various other farms I could add into this, with the limit being how much lag and stress it adds to the server. That is something I will have to watch for as I build, then perhaps set up additional sites and just move their product into the main farm for sorting and storage. Several issues come to mind: 1) If *I* sell the stone or other collected goods, I trust me and the Wolf Wind faction leadership to be judicial about how much to take and sell off for cash. Actually, I mostly trust *me* to do this to make money to put back into the machine for making more useful things, and I hope like hell the faction leadership would trust me on this and not screw me over. I have a very big picture. The big picture is going to take some £... think "villager slave maintains a veggie farm." That takes some £'s. I'm not asking donations, I'm asking to be allowed to do it myself. I can do this. I need people to stay the hell out of my way. But a factor in this is that I want to allow Wolf Wind members to both donate their "unwanted" stuff such as cobble or sand, and to be able to get stone, glass, potions, and other things my farm can do. Sure, it's cool to build, but I want this to be useful to the faction. But with such a huge faction, I need it to be useful without my effort being "used" (e.g. selling out the two double-chests of stone until there is none left for anyone, or taking potions to turn around and sell at their own store). The only idea I have on that is for a closed circuit train where trusted faction leadership and myself can load up and personally give supplies, or load them into a rail cart that drops goods into a chest for the Wolf Wind member to take. I'm not quite sure how best to settle that. I just know how pissed off I'll be to find my cobble-->stone and so on towers empty. Along that line is securing the farm. I'm not entirely clear on how "secure" things are within a faction. Wolf Wind has a *LOT* of members. Do I really have to worry about someone in the faction simply cutting their way into the farm and taking what they want? On the one hand, I've thought of simply making everything I can out of glass so people can see it and watch the gizmo's go. That would be cool! On the other hand, I have no lack of water and lava. I can build walls out of obsidian so anyone within Wolf Wind that wants to take stuff, they'll need a diamond pickaxe and no small amount of determination to *get* to things, along with the risk of being caught since getting to stuff would take time. If I went "all glass", I would simply enclose it protected areas at the border, then get to building. It would be faster, easier, and as I mentioned it would look pretty freakin' cool. If I went "obsidian", I could go with "big black box", ugly as sin and looking more like a Monolith, but it would do the job. I've also thought of trying to build a lava topped volcano around it, which would look cool but take ... lots of time, and I'm sort on time. So if anyone can advise me on security, particularly within a faction, I would be most obliged. I need to get a handle on how I will approach this before I get too much further into construction. |

romaq, i, as the faction leadership you spoke of, for the most part agree with you wholeheartedly with this and i will help you adress your questions next time i see you ingame, kindly remind me of my promise to do so when you see me. i think it wise to keep most of the faction out of this untill it is complete and security measures of some kind are in place. i will help with these, james as well im sure if all 3 of us are online. i request that no warps be made to the temple, so as to restrict activity, and liability and risk of grief. james and romaq, next time the 3 of us are online AT THE SAME TIME!!! please contact me as it seems we have work to do. |

Thank you.Suggestion: email asmith@mik-maq.com since it is FAR easier to hold a discussion by email than by faction with everyone else chiming in. Another cool idea: http://www.mik-maq.com will direct you to my Facebook page. It is possible to actually set up a Facebook group for faction discussion and keep it secure while allowing faction members to chime in. Don't care for a FB? https://app.groupme.com/chats also works, and people can keep their identity "secret", as far as it goes. I would actually welcome and invite other WolfWind faction members to be a part of the discussion. But 150+ faction members is seriously begging for someone to screw things up by the numbers. I have ideas. I'd like a way to hash this out. But I have to get building while I have time to build *now*, which means I've decided to go with a double-walled obsidian monolith for protected areas. I understand it won't shut down someone determined, but it will slow them down and require a diamond pick-axe, so hopefully the person will take a moment to think about it. Maxim 30: A little trust goes a long way. The less you use, the further you'll go. |
