Hello All!

I'm new to the server but I've been playing often and I love the environment! However, I would love to play with some younger family members yet I don't feel right in exposing them to this sort of language and sexual themes that are often on chat. While I do not want to limit other players on my behalf, I was wondering if we could look into a mute plugin for the server.

I see this as an opportunity for younger players to play with family. Looking into a plugin for this, I struggled in my wording, but I feel if we work together we could find something that fits for all.

Pros:
- Allows for a family friendly environment on a larger server
- Gives players the ability to uncensor their speech without concern
- Allows factions/players to have a more direct chat
- Allows players to mute chat they don't like

I believe cons are based on the particular program however a few I can think of;
Cons:
- Isolated some players if they want to participate in chat

Though to combat this con I believe would be to educate those using the plugin so they don't accidentally mute everyone.

Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing your responses.

Sincerely,

Sara

Please don't suggest things that could change the chat, people say it's been a problem and it hasn't been.

I don't see the point in a plugin that would do nothing to help the server.

Potenially I may not have been as clear as I would've liked, so let me please elaborate to better understanding of what I am proposing.

Rather than changing chat altogether, I'm suggesting a plugin that would allow players to view Faction Chat Only. Though that would be preferable, I do not know if such a plugin exsists. Therefore, potenially something that for an individual user only would mute chat and they could unmute specific players.

However, I understand that you think differently and do not agree. Therefore, I only elaborate for the more thorough understanding of others.

Thank you!

Chat gets too flooded, sometimes I would miss a message 'cause of the amount of people talking at the same time.

I don't think this server is advertised as "family friendly". People are going to say whatever they want, no matter who Is looking. There are a few young people on this server (less than 13 years old) that are fine with the chat, not to say all people are like that.

The point i'm trying to make is that i don't think anyone would like if this was implemented. There Is most likely Client side mods to change the chat, or you can remove the chat entirely from the ingame settings.

Edited:

Thank you for your replys and I realize this is not a server wide thing to implement. I appreciate the feedback and will find anther outlet to work in my situation.

Thank you!

To be very honest, I would +1 and -1.
-1 because if you mute a lot of people you might just forget who you muted and end up in not talking to them again. Some conversations will also be broken as some people in the conversation might have muted each other some time.
+1 Because to be honest, I would love the fact that I can mute people like EthanMiner2 who severely annoy me.

and OhGio wtf? just cause you can't read you mute people? use skype if you can't read well.

+1, this is a very good idea, but for now, whenever you see bad language in chat, tell a staff member about it and get it sorted, this is supposed to be a family friendly server and the staff are obliged to keep it that way.

And alternate way to fix this problem is to go into settings and disable the chat, as I remember some players had accidently disabled their chat and could not see the chat at all.

there is no rule about not swearing. the only rule about that is no excessive swearing, but that doesn't prohibit all swearing. we can't just tell all people to not use that kind of language just because you decide to join the server and dislike it. that would be like banning a religion from america because someone moved here and didn't want to follow it.

"there is no rule about not swearing. the only rule about that is no excessive swearing, but that doesn't prohibit all swearing."

Excessive in this rules means if anyone finds the language too much (even if you just say it once), you must stop immediately. :)
It does state this at /warp RulesExp

i thought 'swearing excessively' meant don't flood the chat with

fuck
fuck
fuck
fuck
fuck

or say thing like

fuck you you fucking fucktard go fuck your father fucking dick fucking fucker fuck.

Asriel that goes under spamming :)
Swearing excessively usually means doing it when people would rather be free.

I can't believe you people are having to explain this to Asriel.

My opinion is about the same as Matodir's. +1 and -1.

-1 I don't really know if this would be helpful. I think if people do follow the excessive rule (and by that meaning stop when asked), everyone would be fine. If the issue is someone that is younger and you do not wish them to see, you could change their chat settings on their computer. I don't think limiting people will be the answer to anything

I would look into the mod Tabby Chat, I use it to filter my chat but you may be able to block chat and only use f chat using the mod.

+1 This is an issue that I have mentioned before, that would greatly benefit from a censor plugin. I have often found chat very annoying, and don't like to ignore the entire chat or mute a ton of people just becuase of a few things they say. Usually I just end up ignoring the entire chat, but that can get very annoying for me when I want to know what is going on but people are talking about sexual things or swearing too much.

With what Asriel was saying about excessive swearing. By the definition of excessive, muting for cussing should only be done if it is more than nessessary or too much. That's what I interpret when I see the rule. Also, when looking up the word excessive, this lead me to believe that.

Definition of excessive: "more than is necessary, normal, or desirable; immoderate"

What is excessive and what isn't excessive is purely subjective, your view of excessive is different from my view or some random default's view of excessive. So if ANYONE finds any swearing excessive, we use their definition of excessive.

We as staff may not find it excessive, but if another player finds it so excessive that they want it stopped, then we have to stop it.

that's kinda dumb. if we have a classroom full of kids that are smarter than a certain kid, does that mean the whole class has to dumb down to the lowest level?

Asriel, I don't see any way intelligence comes into play here. No one has suggested anything along those lines. Also, as Wolves_rock5651 stated, among the definitions of excessive is "more than desirable". It is clearly more than desirable if someone states they are unhappy with people swearing.

my comparison was as dumb as the idea. i'm not gonna revolve my vocabulary around one person's wishes. there are mods that can be downloaded to censor chat, and i've seen them before, so i know they exist. i don't live to kiss people's asses

-1 I don't cuss personally, but limiting the rights of other players just for one person is too much. Try downloading a mod to filter chat
