So, lots of people want an easier way to buy the things they need. I suggest a server shop, where people sell their own things, and then the things they sell to the shop will automatically be resold in the buy section of that shop. This way all the items are player produced, and it is easier and more central to buy things.
Pricing: So I think that for the pricing, the cheapest price will be used as the server shop and if they are the only person selling that item, they can choose what the server shop item cost is. Now, people can choose if they want to sell their items at the cheapest price, or if they want to sell them at their shop, for a different price. Another thing, the price for buying the item will be the same as selling the item, so it will literally be, the bottom floor you can sell your items, and the items literally get transferred down a floor, with hoppers, into a chest where you can buy them from.
Location: I think this build should be located near spawn so that new people that join can immediately see it, and start buying/selling. This will up the server economy, as well as the interaction while making it easier and more organized to buy and sell things on the server.
DISCLAIMER: Any of these components can be tweaked, this is just a rough draft you could say, and then the full shop we will flawlessly plan out beforehand.

If the price is fixed then there would be some shops that remain out of stock and some which have too much stock. If the price varies, then eventually some items will become worthless due to them being a renewable resource.
I get that it would be more convenient for you to just be able to immediately convert items into cash but the fundamental issue with a deterministic pricing model is that for a theoretically unlimited amount of renewable items, their value can only be determined by the price players are actually willing to pay for them. |
