I come to you not from a personal point but from a game design one.
My thesis is such: Phantoms are a mistake and serve no purpose.
Let me explain.
All phantoms do is spawn repeatedly, home in on you, and repeat.
They do this to punish not sleeping. Entirely reasonable in solo. Impossible to maintain in multiplayer.
There is no reliable way to get everyone to sleep due to afk alone, let alone cooperation.
This can be offset by setting the player limit for sleep lower, but that means that players can now grief by shifting time easier.
Also, clicking your bed just to avoid phantoms servers no purpose anyway, and shows no skill. You aren't doing anything meaningful to despawn them.
With this in mind i'll move on to point 2. Phantoms don't impact players positively at all.
We can assume players are in generally in two states. The time spent inbetween is generally spent underground or in other realms and will be disregarded.
State 1 is a brand new player who has just arrived.
State 2 is a veteran who has a a full netherite enchanted armor set, potions, food, and at least sixth stage qi condensation.
To a stage 1 player, phantoms cause random deaths through no actions of the player. The only solution is waiting or crying in chat and hoping for a miracle of cooperation/staff intervention. The noob gets punished for nothing.
To a stage 2 player, phantoms are a completely harmless but utterly unending annoyance. Pests. And yet despite their harmlessless they cannot be gotten rid of reasonably.
In conclusion, disable phantoms. No. There's no skill to avoiding them. No. They don't contribute anything. No. You aren't bad if you agree with me, only sane. These things don't offer challenge. They offer frustration to all players. Cut it out.
